TRUMP STANDS UP OFFICE OF AMERICAN INNOVATION – SEEKS PRIVATE SECTOR INPUT

Do you have ideas on how to improve the delivery of government services?  If so, the White House wants to hear from you.  President Trump established the Office of American Innovation (OAI) this week designed to receive input from the private sector and other “external thought leaders.”  Headed by son-in-law and advisor Jared Kushner, the new office will, “… bring a creative and strategic approach to many critical issues and intractable problems that affect Americans’ quality of life.”  While one focus of the new office will be to look for ways to improve government access to cutting edge technology, other recommendations on improving government operations are also welcome.  The over-arching idea behind OAI is that the private sector can bring thought leadership on important management topics that can ultimately make government more efficient.  While some have pointed out that the new office is similar in many ways to previous attempts at private sector collaboration, it is likely that OAI will have momentum behind it for at least some period of time.  As such, companies interested in working with it should plan now to get involved.
