GSA CHIEF OF STAFF PLEDGES REDUCED REGULATORY BURDEN

Saying that GSA must improve both customer and contractor relations, new GSA Chief of Staff Jack St. John offered last week that the main thrust of the Trump Administration’s plan for the agency will be to reduce the number of regulations that govern the agency’s contracts.  Speaking at the Coalition for Government Procurement Spring Conference, St. John further remarked that GSA must move to eliminate duplication inside its agency.  Such changes are designed to lower GSA’s overhead and costs, but will also do the same for contractors.  While few specifics were cited, the Chief of Staff did state that GSA has already made the Transactional Data Reporting pilot voluntary and hinted that more changes could be coming soon.  He emphasized that industry input is welcome and will be given consideration as part of GSA’s planning process.  St. John’s message was a hopeful one for contractors, some of whom have felt that GSA recently heard what industry was saying, but did not always listen.  Stay tuned for what the new management team does on this front.
