MGT ACT GUIDANCE PROVIDED TO AGENCIES, BUT CONTRACTORS SHOULD KEEP IT IN PERSPECTIVE

While federal agencies have been hard at work for some time crafting IT project proposals that could be eligible for anticipated new MGT Act funding, OMB officially issued guidance last week on how such projects will be approved.  A seven person board will officially be announced March 12th, but names, such as FAS Commissioner Alan Thomas, have already been released.  In addition, officials from the US Digital Service, SBA, and DHS will participate.  Agencies may begin to submit proposals to OMB for board review now, but the formal process will not begin until at least March 12thContractors should already be working with their agency partners on MGT Act proposals.  Such work, however, shouldn’t be just limited to MGT Act projects, but to any priority program.  There will actually be more money for other projectsActual money to pay for MGT Act and other projects will be included in the anticipated omnibus appropriations measure, currently scheduled for a Congressional vote on or about March 23rd.  Competition for MGT Act funds will be fierce, but remember, too, that overall funds are limited – about $125 million a year for each of the next two years.  Make sure that you’re prepared, but also keep these opportunities in perspective.
